This section provides information about some of the artwork created for the United States Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 6.  The information below describes the sketches and paintings that are shown above.
Luis Diaz provided the artwork he had created for one of the All-New Series 6 characters.  The item number, card numbers, and final character names are listed below.
Item 1:
Cards: 3a Me Too Lou and 3b Mirror Max.

Luis had painted a tiny picture hanging on the wall behind the mirror.  This picture was of the Series 9 character 355a Beasty Boyd / 355b Semi Colin.  Unfortunately, Topps cropped out that picture for the cards.
Brent Engstrom provided the artwork he had created for the All-New Series 6 (see images above).  The item numbers, card numbers, character names, and artwork details are listed below.
Item 2:
Cards: 2a Showerin' Howard and 2b Rinsin' Vincent.

Brent wrote "Shower Ted" on the artwork, but Topps ended up using different character names.  The rough sketch and color rough showed more of the person who was in the shower.  The second rough sketch and final painting are much more zoomed in on the shower head, which was the Garbage Pail Kids character.
Item 3:
Cards: 5a Canned Carl and 5b Dogged Doug.

The rough sketch has the dog drawn in the background.  The rough sketch has the dog appearing very nauseous at the sight of the dog food.  The dog on the rough sketch was drawn much more like a cartoon compared to the final painting.  The final painting just shows the dog's mouth instead of the entire dog like in the rough sketch.
Item 4:
Cards: 7a Hangin' Hayden and 7b Hung Hunter.

The rough sketch and color rough show the man's face, and there was blood on the Garbage Pail Kids character. The man's face was removed from the first painting.  Also, the first painting had the man's suit the same color as the Garbage Pail Kids character's suit, and the blood on the Garbage Pail Kids character was changed to cracks in his skin.  The final painting changed the color of the man's suit, so it was different than the color of the Garbage Pail Kids character's suit.
Item 5:
Cards: 9a Carol-Sel and 9b Mary Go Round.

There were a couple attempts at painting the character.  The final painting corrected the character's facial expression and had cleaned up some of the background details.
Item 6:
Cards: 13a Tara Too and 13b Naughty Natalie.

Brent created the rough sketch for this character, but John Cebollero was the artist who ended up creating the final painting.  The original concept had blood squirting out of the tattoo at the tattoo artist, but the blood was changed to puke in the final painting.
Item 7:
Cards: 25a Socked Brock and 25b Refer-Reed.

There were a couple attempts at painting this character.  The final painting had the facial skin stretched a little better than what was done in the first painting.  The final painting also had additional details added to the person who was being hit.
Item 8:
Cards: 37a Cat Sup and 37b Bottled Bailey.

The original rough sketch for the concept had the ketchup being added to a hot dog, but Topps had Brent change the hot dog to a hamburger.  The logo on the character was changed in the final painting.
Dave Gross provided the sketches he created for the All-New Series 6 (see images above).  The item numbers, card numbers, final character names, suggested character names, and any additional notations are listed below.

The United States Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 6 supplied a very brief amount of entertainment for collectors.  It seemed that the excitement from the anticipation for the series lasted much longer than the excitement of actually collecting the series.  It was possible that Topps knew ahead of time that the All-New Series 6 would have a significantly smaller amount of interest in it compared to their Wacky Packages products.  Topps also knew Garbage Pail Kids had a large following, and Topps would continue to produce Garbage Pail Kids series as long as the product was still profitable.

The card front artwork for the All-New Series 6 was similar to the quality of the card front artwork for the All-New Series 5.  Excluding the red marks on a small amount of the card numbers, the card print quality was relatively good.  The colors still seemed slightly dulled down and darker, but this may have been caused by the printing process, the application of the glossy coating on the cards, or the card stock.  Topps should not have changed the border color and title font on the card checklists from red to blue because all of the original series and previous All-New Series card checklists have used red for those items, and making little details like that consistent throughout all of the series helps tie all of them together.  Topps needs to take more caution so that simple mistakes like printing the card backs upside-down are avoided.

A long-lasting problem with the All-New Series has been the consistency of the artwork created for the card fronts.  Most collectors agree that Garbage Pail Kids artist Tom Bunk has not been able to recreate the Garbage Pail Kids style he had used for the original series nor has he been attempting to follow the style guide Garbage Pail Kids artist John Pound had created. While Tom Bunk is a very talented artist, collectors have been very vocal about their discontent over the card fronts he had painted for the All-New Series.  Artists Luis Diaz and Dave Gross have done a very good job at painting the Garbage Pail Kids characters according to the style guide.  Some of the other artists still need to work on perfecting the style, but most of their artwork has been fairly acceptable to collectors.  Painting the character features correctly, adding in more details, using the correct color palette, and adding more creativity to the paintings are still some of the things that the other artists needed to work on perfecting.

One of the other problems with the All-New Series 6 was the character concepts.  There were too many concepts for the series that were identical or similar to concepts from the previous series.  While there may have already been hundreds of Garbage Pail Kids characters, it is very easy to come up with concepts for new characters that are completely different from characters that were already done in previous series.  Topps did head in the right direction with the concepts because there was not an over-abundance of concepts that revolved around bodily fluids (i.e., pee, poop, puke, and snot) compared to the previous All-New Series.  It was also good that there were more abstract concepts used in the All-New Series 6.  For some reason, Topps has been overly-cautious about using concepts that revolve around blood, guns, or violence even though there were countless characters from the original series that did.  It would be ideal for Topps to go back to using the types of concepts used in the original series.

Just like all of the previous All-New Series, the card numbering started back at 1a and 1b.  It could be very confusing to distinguish the cards from the different series if the checklists were not available for comparison.  The cards with non-puzzle piece backs had "® & © 2007 THE TOPPS COMPANY, INC.  ALL RIGHTS RESERVED." printed on them, which could help distinguish them from the other series.  As mentioned in some of my reviews of the other All-New Series, it would be better if Topps put unique markings on all of the cards so that collectors could tell which series the cards were from without needing to look at a checklist.

The promotional material created for the All-New Series 6 was not very different from the promotional material created for the previous All-New Series.  While Topps advertised the All-New Series 6 in a few different magazines, the magazines Topps chose to advertise in were poor choices.  It would have been ideal for Topps to place ads in publications such as Mad Magazine, popular comic books, or even the ads section of some of the Sunday newspapers.  The product could have also been promoted through commercials or publicity campaigns.  The promotion and advertising for the All-New Series 6 appeared to make little impact on product sales.  Topps relied too much on the popularity of the product among collectors and not enough on drawing in new collectors.

The distribution for the product was similar to that of the All-New Series 5.  The distributors should get the product on store shelves within a couple of weeks, but many times it would take much longer for some stores to receive the product if they ever even received the product at all.  This problem lead collectors to purchase the items through Internet auctions and Internet card dealers.

It was also good that Topps consolidated the design of the product.  The hobby and retail boxes were the same size and design.  Even the 24-pack boxes were the same size as the 36-pack boxes.  Topps used the unpriced hobby packs for the 24-pack boxes, 36-pack hobby boxes, and gravity feeds.  These subtle changes helped simplify the design of the series.  Since many of the retailers do not sell the packs at $0.99, it might not be necessary to produce packs that are pre-priced 99¢.  It may even be possible for Topps just to produce one or two different types of packs, which would help streamline the product further.

The color Topps chose to use for the boxes for the series was very eye-catching.  The blue on the boxes looked very sharp, and it was good that Topps used a color that was different from the yellow, pink, orange, and green that were already used in the previous All-New Series.

The return of the bubble gum to the packs had its pluses and minuses.  It was good that Topps put bubble gum back into the packs because it made them more reminiscent to the Garbage Pail Kids packs from the original series.  It was also good that Topps had the gum shrink-wrapped because that helped protect the cards from getting stained or damaged by the bubble gum.  The bubble gum Topps used for the All-New Series 6 did not taste as good as the bubble gum from the All-New Series 1, and the bubble gum from the All-New Series 6 was not good for making bubbles.  Another problem with the bubble gum was that it contained Sorbitol, which can irritate the digestive system and cause fructose malabsorption.  It would be ideal for Topps to back to using the same formulation of bubble gum that they used in the All-New Series 1.  The gum from the All-New Series 1 tasted better, it was easy to make bubbles with, and it did not contain Sorbitol.

It was not difficult to complete the sets of the activity cards and magnet cards.  As some collectors had mentioned, the insert card sets seem to be uninspired.  Even for young children, the activity cards were a ridiculous idea.  Collectors are not interested in cards that have to be damaged (i.e., punched-out, cut, or folded) in order to do that activities on the cards.  The magnet cards were just like the magnet cards from the All-New Series 5.  Unfortunately, Topps reused artwork from the original series for the magnet cards instead of coming up with something different.  The magnet cards were somewhat interesting to collect, but the artwork on them needed to be something collectors had not seen before.  It might also have been a good idea to print something on both sides of the magnet cards so that they could be displayed two ways.  Topps still needed to work on the design of the insert card sets, but keeping the insert card sets easy to complete and affordable was definitely a plus.

The only interest the two bonus boxes for the series would get would be from the collectors who knew the bonus boxes were good to save because their values would increase somewhat quickly.  Since the beginning, the idea of the bonus cards has not been very appealing to collectors because the bonus cards look no different than the regular cards (i.e., same card stock and similar design), and the cost of the bonus boxes, $9.99 per bonus box, made the two All-New Series 6 bonus cards from the bonus boxes somewhat expensive to collect.  It was great that Topps used little, cardboard shelves to hold the unopened packs inside of the bonus boxes instead of large pieces of Styrofoam, but the unopened packs were somewhat smashed into the bonus boxes, which could cause damage to the cards.  Another problem with the bonus boxes was that the bonus cards were put inside of the packs, and because of collation problems there were bonus boxes that did not contain any packs with bonus cards.  The 2-pack blister packs did help cut the cost to collect the other three bonus cards because the 2-pack blister packs only cost $1.99 a piece.  As I had mentioned in the All-New Series 5, it might have been better if Topps made a unique blister pack for each bonus card.  The unique blister packs could all come inside of the same blister box, but the different designs would allow consumers to know which bonus card they were getting at the time they were buying the blister packs, which was similar to how the bonus boxes are.

The design of the gravity feeds for the All-New Series 6 was very similar to the design of the gravity feeds from the All-New Series 5.  The main problem with the design was that all of the packs would be grouped together at the bottom of the gravity feed, reinserting packs through the slot at the top of the display could damage the cards as the packs drop down, the artwork on the sides of the display could be blocked by other gravity feeds displayed next to it, and the majority of the space inside of the gravity feed was empty.  It was good that Topps decided to use the same packs for the gravity feeds as they did for the hobby boxes.  The next improvement would be for Topps to create a display that was very visible to the consumer but also protected the packs and made the packs easy to access.

Even though there already were five previous All-New Series, there still should not have been as many repeated first names used for the All-New Series 6 character names.  There should not have been any first names used more than once in the series, but that happened with the first name Scott (i.e., 17a Scott Pocket and 39a Shot Scott) in the All-New Series 6.  The name Paul has been used in all six of the All-New Series.  There are thousands of first names that could be used for character names, and there are still plenty of first names that were never used for any Garbage Pail Kids series.  It would be ideal if Topps noted all the first names they had previously used in the All-New Series, so they could use different first names for new characters.  There also should not have been any character names that were the same as character names from previous series, but that happened with the names "Alien Alan", "Blow Away Ray", "Clawed Claude", "Cole Cut", and "Mike Strike" and in the All-New Series 6.

The All-New Series 6 was comparable to the All-New Series 5 as far as the design and quality.  Topps still needs to make the artists follow the Garbage Pail Kids style guide more closely, so that the artwork looks more consistent throughout the set.  Many of the concepts for the All-New Series 6 were too similar to concepts from the previous All-New Series.  Topps needs to review the previous Garbage Pail Kids series to see which concepts were already used, and they need to be less restrictive about the types of concepts they use.  The return of the bubble gum in the packs was good, but Topps needs to reformulate the bubble gum so that it is more elastic and does not contain Sorbitol.  The insert cards need to be changed so that they interest collectors of all ages.  Topps did not do enough to promote the series and interest kids in collecting the cards.  The product needs to be better advertised before and after it is released, and it needs to have a more visible presence in the stores.
